William W. Streeter History Award
Each year the Cummington Historical Commission awards one $2000 prize to a graduating senior who resides in Cummington and is planning to attend college. The award is named in honor of William W. Streeter, a descendant of one of Cummington's original pioneer families. Bill Streeter has made innumerable contributions to the preservation of Cummington’s history. He helped to establish the Kingman Tavern Museum, created an endowment for its maintenance, written several volumes of Cummington history, including his latest Only One Cummington, Volume II. Inspired by his indefatigable devotion to Cummington, the prize is awarded to the student who writes the best essay or submits best the media project about an aspect of the town's history. Essays, along with supporting information are due May 15 of each year. Award funds are distributed upon the successful completion of the first semester of college.
